About EMI Calculator
EMI stands for equated monthly instalment: a fixed payment that clears a loan over a set term, with interest calculated on the reducing balance. The formula is EMI = P x r x (1 + r)^n / ((1 + r)^n - 1), where P is the principal, r the monthly interest rate (annual rate divided by twelve) and n the number of monthly instalments. The calculator applies it directly and reports the total interest and total payable alongside.
The bar underneath is the part worth staring at: in the early years most of each payment is interest, and the principal only dominates later, which is why prepaying early in a long loan saves far more than prepaying near the end. "EMI per lakh" gives the monthly cost of every lakh borrowed, a quick way to scale the figure to a different amount. This tool uses a flat reducing-balance model and does not include processing fees, insurance or rate resets — treat the output as an estimate, not an offer.
