About URL Encoder / Decoder

Query strings cannot contain raw spaces, ampersands or non-ASCII characters, so those values must be percent-encoded before they are sent. This tool runs the standard encodeURIComponent for individual values — which correctly escapes everything except A-Z a-z 0-9 - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ) — and a whole-URL mode that preserves the protocol, slashes and query delimiters while encoding only what needs it.

Switch to Decode to read a mangled link back: paste the encoded string and it returns the original text, or decode a full data URL to inspect its payload. If a decode fails, the input usually contains a stray percent sign that is not part of a valid %XX sequence — that is the most common reason browsers throw a URIError. Both directions are handled by the platform's own URI functions, so behaviour matches exactly what the browser will do.
